ABSTRACT

This chapter will outline the infection prevention considerations when designing and implementing an occupational health program for a healthcare facility. Included in the content are reasons for developing an occupational health program along with the major components. The risk for transmission of infection to and from the healthcare worker is discussed. Guidelines for work restrictions for personnel with infectious diseases and exposure management are provided. There are suggestions for measuring improve-ment in the prevention of occupational injuries and exposures. The chapter also includes a description of workers’ compensation.
