Abstract

This chapter outlines the infection prevention considerations when designing and implementing an occupational health program for a healthcare facility. The content includes objectives for an occupational health program along with the major components. The risk for transmission of infections between healthcare personnel and patients is discussed. Guidelines for work restrictions for healthcare personnel with infectious diseases and exposure management are provided. There are suggestions for measuring improvement in the prevention of occupational injuries and exposures. The chapter also includes a description of workers' compensation.
