APIC Text Online: Antimicrobials and Resistance

The latest chapter update to the APIC Text Online (ATO) is now posted and available to subscribers: Antimicrobials and Resistance . Antimicrobial use is one of the main selective pressures responsible for increasing antibiotic resistance in microbes. Infection Preventionists (IPs) may impact the reduction of antimicrobial resistance utilizing a working knowledge of antimicrobials, principles for their appropriate use, the mechanisms by which these drugs inhibit microbial growth, and the mechanisms by which they develop resistance. This chapter update includes a new section on antimicrobial stewardship.

The ATO continues to support concurrent review and updates of important chapters based on infection prevention trends and issues, as well as developing new chapters. Key chapter updates include:
