Abstract
This chapter discusses current infection prevention and control measures and safety practices and their implications for the practice of dentistry. Dental healthcare personnel are required to practice infection prevention and control measures during patient care to reduce potential risks of disease transmission to patients and themselves. Mandated standards and recommendations from public health, governmental, and regulatory agencies call for reduction of potential risks to prevent occupational exposures and adverse patient outcomes through a series of practice controls.
