Abstract
Product evaluation is an essential function in healthcare facilities. An organization’s chosen tools, i.e. its products, have considerable implications for patients and the organization’s overall well-being. Many elements must be considered in the product selection-process, including cost, value, and safety. Decisions regarding product selection and review have long been delegated to individuals within healthcare facilities. Infection Preventionists offer a distinct and crucial perspective in the selection process by managing resource utilization pressures, assessing and mitigating infection risks linked to product changes, ensuring patient safety, and offering expertise associated with clinical literature. Given rising economic pressures in healthcare, IPs must adopt an objective, scientific, and need-oriented approach to product selection.
